About this business
You’ve probably landed here because you’d like to know a little about me, what I do and why I do it… so here it is!
As a child I had a fascination with fabrics and then as I moved into my teenage years, I could never find clothes in the shops that I had pictured in my head so I learned how to make my own. It was probably this hobby that saved me from a lot of teenage angst, too – whenever I was down I would design and make something to wear – the stress would all evaporate as I concentrated on doing something I had a passion for. Fast forward a few years and I wanted to turn this passion into a career so after a foundation course in Design and Illustration at London College of Fashion, I went on to attain a Royal College of Art degree in Fashion Textiles at Ravensbourne. I was fortunate enough to start working a few days after I graduated and the first garment I ever worked on was a very long and very dramatic pure silk wedding veil scattered with hundreds of tiny woodland flowers – I think it all began here!
Since then I have worked as a designer for high-end, luxe bridal and fashion companies where the emphasis is on exquisite fabrics, top quality workmanship and excellent customer service and nothing less will do. It is here where I have learned by craft and it is these values which I bring with me to Sash + Veil which I started more than 3 years ago when I moved away from London to be with the man who would later become my husband. A friend who had recently opened a bridal shop asked me to make some sashes for her. I started to make more and more and then moved on to making veils again. I soon realised brides-to-be often needed advice on choosing a wedding veil and accessories and it was something I loved doing.
If you would like help with styling your bridal look or choosing the perfect veil to accessorise your dress, do get in touch. I am always very happy for you to send me images of your dress and hairstyle so I can advise you on the type of veil to consider. If you are close enough to Colchester, it’s always a good idea to make an appointment to come into the studio to see me and we have a chat and a try-on.
I think that’s the serious stuff over with and now I am told I need to include a few random facts about me, so here goes:
- One of my favourite things is festivals and live music and I’m a huge Glastonbury fan. I have been around 23 times and when ticket sale day comes around I get very stressed
- I have a passion for VWs – my car is an elderly VW beetle. I’ll be heartbroken to get rid of him when the time comes.
- I’m shamefully untidy and have to make a real effort to keep order in my life
- I love travelling and have been on two round the world trips. India is probably my favourite country in the world and I try to go back each year
- I was brought up near the sea and my happy place is on the beach. I now live a few minutes’ walk away – I have to be near the water
- I love yoga, the summer, avocados, curry, animals and especially cats, French… I hate technology, cold weather, Brussel sprouts, cruelty to animals, bad manners…..
I’m not sure what the above has got to do with your wedding but you might feel you know me a little better now! If I can help you with your veil do give me a shout hello@sashandveil.co.uk.
